My Uncle recently suffered an accident on the road and needed to be hospitalized. His legs were crippled but fortunately it wasn’t permanent. He would regain the use of his legs over time but for now he was handicapped and needed to live as a handicapped person for some time. He used to live alone but my Dad decided that he should move in with us so we could better take care of him. We started to clear out the extra room for him and started work on the bathroom too.

The most important part of living with a handicapped person is the bathroom. One should set up disabled showers so they can get in and out of the bathroom easily. This means using walk-in or disabled bathtubs that don’t require you to climb in and out of the bathtub. The bathtube itself should be really deep and large as well, for additional comfort. You can easily set up your own disabled bathroom with some work. Just head over to Home Depot or some other place and get all the things you need. This includes getting shower bars, shower seats and maybe benches.

Remodeling our bathroom was a lot of work but we really wanted our uncle to feel good bathing. I heard that disabled people are often worried that they will slip or fall in the bathroom and can’t bathe in peace so we decided to change that and make sure that they can relax in peace without getting any hassles or fears from slipping and falling. It is important that they get free of any fears of bathing because the bathroom is the only place they can really relax.

We also bought some shower wheelchairs so he could be wheeled into the bathroom and then get out of it easily without any problems. Its important when you want to shower by yourself. A wheelchair is useful so do make sure you get a shower wheelchair if you are living with any disabled people. I hope my Uncle feels happy living in my house!
