We’ve always found there are five top things you should consider before booking any Sydney Harbour Cruise.

1. Make sure you know exactly what the package includes.

Is food/drink/music included? This is very important to know from the beginning. On some boats, only beer and wine will be included, spirits will be an extra charge. If you are on a cruise you believe to be fully inclusive, it should be just that. It’s important to be clear on what you’re paying for.

2. Are there any extra charges that you haven’t been prepared for?

In some cases, depending on the wharf, there may be an additional charge for the use of the wharf. With the busy traffic on Sydney Harbour, time slots are at a premium, so at most, the vessel will have 15 minutes to embark and 15 minutes to disembark passengers. The harbour is getting busier and busier. It’s important that you get to the wharf on time or there may be additional charges.

3. How professional is the charter boat?

Is the vessel safe and clean and well turned out with a professional crew? “Shipshape Bristol-fashion”? The easiest way to find out the state of the boat is to look at previous cruise comments. Also consider the bnoat’s “track record” – is the company in good standing in the industry and experienced? Do they have a functioning website and customer service team? Not all cruise companies are created equally. Indeed, some boats and cruises companies are very amateurish. Safety should be a priority.

4. Make sure you know which wharf the vessel will pick you up from.

This is very important. Some wharves have easier access than others. Popular wharves will have tight time slots. it is absolutely imperative everyone arrives on time. Make sure to call taxis well in advance and double-check a street directory to make sure the driver knows where to drop you off. If you drive your own cars, make sure there’s sufficient parking in the area.

5. What time will you need to be at the wharf?

This is especially critical on New Years Eve due to the heavy amount of traffic on the roads.  If you are on the City/Eastern Suburbs side and need to get to North Sydney for example, it may take a long time to get there. And to get home.

We recommend driving to the pickup point and parking nearby as it is very hard to find a taxi after midnight on New years Eve. Keep in mind most charter-boat companies will charge for additional time spent at wharves. If someone in your party misses the boat, they may have to use a water taxi to join the cruise.
